  I have had Altoona Tax Services complete my tax returns for the past few years. The first year was great, everything was done properly and there were no issues. The second year seemed to be fine as well (more on that in a moment.) Last year, I dropped off my paperwork, including a ton of receipts and documentation. The week before the tax deadline, I called to check the status of my return and was told they hadn't got to it yet. After numerous calls over the following week, I finally did get them to file the returns, but they had lost all of my receipts and documentation. Last week I received a certified letter from the IRS stating I owed thousands of dollars in back taxes for the 2nd return I had Altoona Tax complete. After a few hours on the phone with the IRS it turns out they rejected the e-filing and Altoona Tax neither notified me, or did anything to remediate the situation. They are mostly unreachable by phone, and the office seems to be closed more often than not now. Their prices are reasonable, and if you can get them to COMPLETE the work in a timely fashion and successfully file with the IRS, the return seems complete. But based upon my experiences with them... time, paperwork lost, and money lost... I would not recommend them to anyone.

  We are very disappointed in Altoona Tax Service. Errors made 3 different times on our taxes. The first time he admitted the error and paid the interest owed. The second and third time (this was very recently) he did not. Difficult to reach. Seems to be out of the office unless it is tax time. Careless for a professional. Disappointed. Will not be going back. Never had problems with the IRS until we started going to him.

  Poor communication! Does not return messages for months. He did not include my W-2 on my tax form and submitted without. I caught this error, resent him the W-2 info and asked him to amend. He never did and never returned my phone calls or emails. My new tax preparer had to fix this error.
